Cellular IoT, what hardware is your go-to hardware platform?

Hi Ioterra community,

Hope all is well. I was wondering if you could help me with a bit of insight. I have recently been asked twice the same connectivity architecture question in the span of a week.

I am trying to figure out which off-the-shelf long range (cellular or other long range protocol) modules are actually being used by members here for product development. I’d love to get expert insight and greatly appreciate anyone that can provide some clarity on modules you have an affinity for and if there is anything new you are keeping tabs on.

Thanks so much in advance!

Best,
Danny

@Danny_deLaveaga ,

Good question, here is what I use:

Cellular: Particle Boron (SARA410), and nRF9160 Feather (nRF9160)
LoRA - HopeRF RFM95C

Hope this helps,

Interesting knowledge/experience sharing!
For our production boards we use the following modules:

  • Cellular: Quectel’s MC60 for GSM-only and BG600L for GSM/NB-IoT/LTE-M. Both modules have embedded GNSS as well, which is really handy. Great value-for-money IMHO.
  • LoRaWAN: RAK Wireless 4270. Easy to use through Serial Interface and low cost.
